Mitch Reed was born in Bayou Vista, Louisiana in 1971 and raised amongst a family of musicians and folklorists in Lafayette, Louisiana. When Mitch was 15 he started playing the fiddle and became acquainted with some of Acadiana’s musical masters such as Canray Fontenot and Wade Frugé. When he was 17, Mitch began to tour and perform with Dewey Balfa, Marc Savoy and DL Menard. Through the influence of these men Mitch built his repertoire and learned an old style of playing  which is evident in his sound today.

Since 1989 Mitch has worked with the Smithsonian Institution Office of Folklife Programs in International conferences and Louisiana schools. Since 2008 he has performed on four Grammy Nominated albums and in 2009 he was awarded a Grammy with BeauSoleil for their album “Live at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival”.

Mitch currently plays bass guitar and second fiddle in BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet and proudly passes on the unwritten tradition of Cajun fiddling. He lives in Scott, LA with his wife and daughter where group and private lessons are offered in The Front Room.
