Camp takes place on a working ranch, and we kindly request for campers to participate in a few chores every day. Don’t worry, it’s fun!
New students: Please include an additional page of writing about yourself, and a recording of at least two contrasting tunes. This can be solo and/or with other musicians. Any recording quality will do. If you need advice, feel free to email camp for Suggestions. Recordings may be included with the application form or emailed as mp3’s to Bigsurfiddlecamp@gmail.com. If you email mp3’s, please title the email subject “Your Name, Big Sur Fiddle Camp 2010 mp3’s” and make sure they arrive to the inbox by the time your deposit makes it to our mailbox!
Classes:
New students: You will be placed in a class by camp, and will stay with that class for the week. Classes are a small intimate affair, and placing students helps provide the best learning experience for everyone. Please be sure this is ok before you sign up. Both classes are wonderfully fun & engaging, with plenty to learn.
Returning students: The same classes will be offered, with a similar student body. Please choose your class, keeping in mind that wherever you were last year is a good option. You must stay with this class for the week.
All students:
If your preferred class is full, we may be able to offer space in the alternate class. If this is above your level, please be considerate and understand that teachers will be moving at a challenging pace, and you will be listening to/recording material to learn later.
If it is below your level, plan to focus on learning material fully, groove, chords, harmony, and being at the head of the class and able to help instructors demonstrate ideas. Harder is not always better for learning, especially if you want to retain the music you learned at camp.
